OMI ASHÉ (the power of water) “Agua apaga candela.” – “Water puts out fire / water calms down trouble.” Lucumi proverb on the nature of water.
Omi Ashé are a collective of Bay Area women artists, and special guests, who came together over years through their love for the Afro-Cuban batá drums and songs for the orishas (the divine forces of nature). Orisha drumming and songs are part of a cultural legacy remembered and re-formed in Cuba. The origins of Cuban batá drumming are in Nigeria and Benin, where the batá drums still speak Yoruba language.
The Bay Area has been washed in the powerful and heartfelt vocals of each member of the acapella band Attúne since they started their musical journeys in their hometowns of Berkeley, Oakland, and Los Altos Hills. Tammi Brown, Bryan Dyer, David Worm, and Destani Wolf’s paths have taken them around the globe, recording and performing with the best. They are veteran acapella vocalists dedicated to using their voices to empower and inspire hope and create positive change in their communities and worldwide. Together they are enlightened and inspired by performing and facilitated classes and workshops in the hopes of illuminating open hearts and building community through song.
